There is something rather ironic about the wedding car. The typical western wedding ceremony may have changed quite a lot over the years, to accommodate the tastes and the needs of a progressive multi-cultural global village, but there are certain qualities which remain rooted in the oldest traditions. The wedding car is one aspect which seems to have always been part of a wedding, yet it really cannot have been. For one thing, cars have been around for a relatively small portion of time in comparison to most of the wedding traditions which have survived.
It is perhaps fitting that the wedding car is adorned with ribbons. This is a tradition which derives from a time long before the combustion engine. Unlike the vehicle which carries the bride and groom off to their reception, or plane, wherever they are on their next stage of journey, the ribbons and cans which adorn the vehicle would, in an earlier age, have been trinkets and ribbon affixed to the marriage bed.
This was usually a bed in a house which was within the community in which the newly-weds met and were expected to stay. Quite contrarily to that bed which, was rooted to the spot in every way, the ribbons which trail behind the car signify a life of a journey taken together, perhaps within a community, but definitely as a distinct couple braving the adventure of marriage on their own.
The choice of wedding car depends on many variables. Budget, location, preference, availability and length of journey are just a few of the aspects which will affect the choice. There are many couples who invest the vehicle with a lot of significance and so many want the very best for their special day.
When it comes to luxury vehicles fit for a momentous event, the choices may seem many, but those who have their hearts set on, say a vintage Aston Martin, might have to settle for something more readily available. Not to say that couple won't find a beautiful vintage vehicle, simply that they might be limited by what's on offer.
In Singapore the options are likely to be even fewer for those with a very specific or even quirky need. As an island-nation, it is simple geographic consequence that there are not as many vehicles in the country as you would find in other countries of similar wealth and global significance.
The good news is that it is a nation which sees an endless influx of worldly and wealthy visitors from East and West, and is rife with services pitched at the jet-setters who like to play extravagantly and live well. If you appreciate a chauffeur driven stretch limo, your hotel’s private fleet might have just the right thing for you.
Of course, Singapore is filled with fun lovers of infinite variety, so don't resign yourself to a stretch limo if it's not right for you. There are many options, from the fun and playful to the truly romantic. You'll find a classic car just as you'll find motorbike and side car, and whichever vehicle transports you from the ceremony, it's bound to be at one with the magic of this destination of dream weddings.
