It goes without saying that a wedding is a time for celebration, and the catalyst and driving force behind that celebration is the wedding entertainment. Very often when planning a wedding a lot of time and energy goes into certain aspects such as the wedding dress or catering and sometimes other features such as the entertainment are organised as something of an afterthought. Given that it is a key component in your guests' enjoyment of the occasion choosing the right music and entertainment to accompany the proceedings is a very important decision to make.
The first thought most people have when thinking of their wedding entertainment is for the reception, when all the hard work is done and it is time to let the hair down and enjoy the occasion after the formality of the service. A time for congratulations certainly it is also a time to share the event with friends and family and the right entertainment provides the perfect backdrop to this.
While music for dancing will almost certainly be required at the reception, there are other times when a more classical musical accompaniment adds just the right feel. An example may be as guests arrive or sit down to dinner.
The style of music you choose is entirely down to your own tastes and personalities. You may have a particular genre of music in mind such as jazz, easy listening or swing, which are great for weddings, or perhaps music from a certain era such as the 70s or 80s.
You may alternatively wish to celebrate your own particular heritage of culture with music to match. There are a number of live bands in Singapore reflecting a wide array of musical styles and tastes.
An alternative to a live band is a DJ and they can provide a cost effective way of providing many different types of music to suit any style of wedding. A general DJ playlist format will start with well known and accessible songs sometimes followed by a more dance oriented style for younger guests at the end of the evening. It is always a good idea to hear a band or DJ perform in advance if possible before booking them.
Many wedding venues will supply their own entertainment as part of a wedding package. If you have any particular requests for a live band or perhaps have your own CDs you wish to play then you should consult with the event organiser in advance. If a band or DJ is to be hired you should also check the venue has the appropriate space, staging and power points suitable.
Although certainly the most important feature, wedding entertainment need not all be about the music. If there are to be many children attending it is a good idea to hire a children's entertainer to keep them amused and allow the adults some free time into the bargain. Sometimes a special section of the event space can be set aside for this. Table magicians are a further option and they can interact with the guests and provide ongoing sleight of hand entertainment.
